Shiocton trustees adopt 2025 general fund budget, set $1,208,950.13 tax levy

The Village Board of Trustees of the Village of Shiocton adopted the 2025 General Fund budget and approved a tax levy totaling $1,208,950.13 following a public hearing on Nov. 18, 2024.
Village President Jenny Schmoock called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. and Clerk Laurie Sweeney presented the budget details during the hearing. Sweeney told the board that transportation aids increased by just over $490 and state shared revenue rose by $19,931 for the coming year. She said the village portion of the library budget remained unchanged while the library's state aid rose $1,982, and the village’s share of the fire department budget increased about 3 percent.
Sweeney also reviewed set-aside and capital outlay accounts, saying the Comprehensive and Christmas light set-aside accounts were increased. The budget includes two $5,000 set-asides: one for garbage and one for DPW equipment intended to help maintain existing village vehicles.
On the tax levy side, Sweeney summarized increases by jurisdiction: the Village of Shiocton levy was up $1,720; the Shiocton School District levy was up $56,877; Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) was up $2,631; and Outagamie County was up $9,685. Sweeney said the full proposed budget is available for public review at the Clerk’s Office.
Trustee Dawes moved and Trustee Bunnell seconded a motion to adjourn the public hearing and convene the regular meeting; the motion was recorded as M/S/P. Later, Dawes moved and Bunnell seconded the motion to approve the 2025 General Fund budget as presented and the tax levy of $1,208,950.13; the motion was recorded as M/S/P and approved. The minutes and the meeting record do not include a roll-call tally for the budget motion.
With no further business, the board adjourned at 5:53 p.m.
