Shell Lake council approves LPAC spending, extends bank line of credit

The Shell Lake City Council on May 12 approved multiple routine actions, including authorizing lake-protection spending and extending a bank line of credit, and heard presentations on tourism-funded projects and upcoming community events.
Mayor Rowie Hansberger called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and the council unanimously approved minutes from April 14 and April 15, 2025. The council approved vouchers numbered 337–477 and heard a series of department and advisory reports.
The council voted to allow the Lake Protection Advisory Committee (LPAC) to use up to $2,500 from its budget to create a new property owners handbook. That motion, moved by Rob Anderson and seconded by Ken Schultz, carried unanimously. The council also approved the LPAC purchase of three buoys and one set of solar lights for $1,294.82 from the LPAC budget; that motion, moved by Stephen Smith and seconded by Mike Andrews, carried unanimously.
Public Works Director Mitch Brown reported two new memorial benches at Memorial Park and estimated donors paid about $1,000 per bench. Brown said dock installations went well and agreed to remove the holiday lights from the sailboat structure “as soon as possible.” During public comment Ken Scheps thanked the Public Works crew for work at the “A” access. Mayor Hansberger praised AIS inspector Hunter Harrington after an experience launching her pontoon boat, saying he “did his job very well.”
On financial matters, the council unanimously approved a six-month extension of the city’s line of credit with Shell Lake State Bank after a roll call that recorded seven Yes votes: Stephen Smith, Mike Andrews, Steve Byrd, Ken Schultz, Dan Harrington, Tom Rasmussen and Rob Anderson. The council also approved routine vouchers and the meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
The council received several informational reports during the meeting, including police, zoning and library board updates, and heard that Plan Commission will meet May 27 at 1:00 p.m. The next formal procedural item referenced was the Board of Review scheduled for June 4 at 10:00 a.m.
