Councilmember Deb Nebel says farewell at final Shell Lake meeting

Deb Nebel told the Shell Lake City Council during public comment that the April 14 meeting was both her last council session and her birthday, and she thanked colleagues, neighbors and the community for the experience.
"It turns out my it's both my last city council meeting and my birthday! This has been a great experience. I got to know the people on city council, the community and even some of my neighbors better. But I'm a grandma now, and need to move on. I believe the city is in very good hands," Nebel said, and read an anonymous note she had received praising her service.
Mayor Rowie Hansberger echoed the appreciation, saying she was sorry to see Nebel go and noting Nebel’s contributions to the council. Hansberger also said the city was getting "a great replacement in Tom Rasmussen." The council recessed briefly to share treats the mayor had provided to celebrate Nebel’s retirement.
City staff delivered several routine updates during the meeting: Brown presented the Public Works Director report and said the crew began refinishing the community center floors this week; Ken Schultz reported the Beach House roofing project was scheduled to start that day. Mayor Hansberger used New Business to announce two community events — a June 13 "Walk for the Cure" (with a Mayor's Team open to participants) and the second annual Great Shell Lake Get Together on July 20 — and invited volunteers.
The meeting continued with administrative actions, routine motions and a series of unanimous votes before adjourning at 7:38 p.m.
