Shell Lake council approves Spring Gala license, schedules Winter Fest; school plans “Sink the Sombrero” fundraiser

The Shell Lake City Council on Jan. 13 approved a Temporary Class B Retailers License for the Shell Lake Arts Center to hold a “Spring Gala” on May 3, 2025. The motion was made by Stephen Smith and seconded by Ken Schultz and carried without recorded opposition.
Mayor Rowie Hansberger announced the city will host a "Shell Lake Winter Fest" on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and asked for volunteers and assistance with school-based promotion (Stefanie Naessen was asked to coordinate with the school). City Administrator Andrew Eiche encouraged council members to attend a training session led by Carol Buck on emergency management.
New business included an informational item that the Shell Lake School Spanish class plans a winter lake fundraiser called "Sink the Sombrero," in which community members pay to guess the date a structure will sink during spring thaw. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn at 7:52 p.m.
