Board approves BEA tentative agreement, AEA payment timing change and multiple salary adjustments

The Burlington Community School District board on June 1 approved a tentative agreement with the Burlington Education Association (BEA), an amendment to the AEA contract, and recommended salary increases for meet-and-confer staff and administrators.
Lisa Johnson presented the BEA tentative agreement, describing year 1 as a flat $1,500 increase on base wages (roughly 3%); trustees voted to approve the agreement and its language changes. Separately, the board approved an AEA contract amendment required by recent legislation that adjusts when payments are made (quarterly rather than over 10 months); administrators stressed the amendment does not change the total compensation or services, only timing.
The board also approved recommended base-wage increases of 3% for meet-and-confer staff and proposed administrative and cabinet adjustments (most commonly 3% with a small number of targeted adjustments above that to address recruitment and comp comparisons). District leaders said total administrative salary costs will remain below a 3% increase overall because of staffing changes and vacancies.
