Union County commissioners approve block of resolutions; several abstentions recorded

The Board of County Commissioners of Union County voted to adopt a block of resolutions spanning 2026-332 through 2026-413 after a motion and second were recorded.

Clerk of the board conducted a roll-call and reported that while many resolutions passed with nine affirmative votes, several items recorded abstentions: the clerk summarized specific resolutions that carried one abstention and others that carried two abstentions before confirming the remainder passed. The motion to adopt the block was moved by Commissioner Marabella and seconded by Commissioner Palmeri Mudett.

County Manager Ed Oatman spoke earlier in the meeting about the financial context for some items on the consent package, including a change in the inmate housing contract that increased one line item by $655,000. "Even with this increase, we are saving a little more than 19,000,000 a year by closing our jail," Oatman said, explaining the county's net savings projection tied to a jail closure plan.

The clerk's roll-call tally was used to confirm outcomes; no individual ordinance adoptions or ordinance second readings were debated separately on the floor during this meeting. The clerk and county staff were available for follow-up on any item-specific questions raised during public comment or by commissioners.

The board did not take additional separate recorded votes on items outside the consent packet during this session. The meeting moved on to commissioners' reports and community announcements after the clerk confirmed adoption.
