Commissioners adopt agenda, hear manager's report and confirm multiple appointments

The Corrick County Board of Commissioners on March 31 adopted the meeting agenda and consent items, heard a manager's report with community updates and recognized awards, and confirmed multiple appointments to county advisory boards and authorities.

Chair opened the special meeting and asked Commissioner Quinn to lead the Pledge of Allegiance; Vice Chairman Mansfield offered an invocation. The Chair reminded members of their duties under the state government ethics act and asked for any conflict disclosures before business began.

"Those county offices will be closed on Friday, April 3 in observance of Easter," the County Manager said during the manager's report, and highlighted a series of community items: Trillium Health Resources honored DSS director Jessica Adams and the county's South Central Regional Advisory Board with awards; the Senior Games recorded a county-high 217 participants and will advance qualifiers to state finals in Raleigh; and April observances and events include latex paint recycling (accepted at Hibbs Road and Ottway convenience sites) with a separate household hazardous waste collection day on April 25, a pinwheel garden display at the courthouse on April 6 to mark National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and a "Take Back the Night" event April 7 in Morehead City.

The Chair read a series of appointments and reappointments across county advisory bodies. Appointments included: Laura Lee Covington (reappointment, three-year term), Frances Mason (reappointment, three-year term), Barbara Richards (appointment, one-year term), and Deborah Williams (reappointment, three-year term) to the Adult Home Community Advisory Board; Heath Smith to the Aging Planning Board for the veteran service director seat (perpetual term); Judy Budaskovsky to the Beach Commission (TDAC three-year term); Richard Gilligan and Charles Smith reappointed to two-year terms on the Harbor Authority, and Ron Sparks appointed to the unexpired term of Larry Lamb; Sheila Garner nominated to the Town of Newport Planning Board (three-year term); Barbara Richards and Deborah Williams named to the Nursing Home Advisory Board; Norwood Jackson reappointed to the Planning Commission (three-year term); Shelly Ashley named to the Senior Center Advisory Board (perpetual term); and Ricky Farrington reappointed to the Zoning Board of Adjustment (three-year term). The Chair called for affirmation of each item and the board approved them as presented.

Procedural motions recorded in the meeting included a motion to adopt the agenda, moved by Commissioner Quinn and seconded by Commissioner Walbrook, and a motion to adopt the consent agenda, moved by Commissioner Moore and seconded by Commissioner Wahlberg; the Chair called for those in favor in each case and the motions were accepted. Commissioner Clark moved to adjourn the special meeting, the motion was seconded by Vice Chairman Mansfield, and the meeting was closed with thanks to attendees.
