The Isle of Palms Public Safety Committee on April 6 reviewed a standard mutual-aid agreement with the College of Charleston Department of Public Safety and voted to recommend approval to City Council. Staff said the agreement is standard practice to “cover all of our bases,” and noted that although the college technically has statewide jurisdiction, the mutual-aid document clarifies procedures for requests and responses.
Committee members moved and the committee approved the recommendation by voice vote. The agreement is mutual and non-automatic: agencies must request aid and availability will depend on resources at the time of a request.
