The Merrimac 150th Celebration Committee announced plans March 11 for a time capsule ceremony on April 11, 2026, beginning at 6 p.m., and set a deadline of March 15 for submissions to be provided to committee member Robert L. Gustison II.
Committee members reviewed items to be contributed, confirmed there would be speakers and a sealing of the capsule, and noted that the Light Department will provide entertainment and refreshments for the ceremony. Rob Gustison was assigned multiple follow-ups: ask Dr. B about a contribution and regarding high school curriculum, follow up with Seth Moulton about a possible contribution, update a property-use request for the ceremony, reach out to potential speaker Janet Bruno, and create a slide show of time capsule items.
Other assigned tasks included: Danielle Teel coordinating the ceremony with the Light Department and Town Clerk and notifying police if needed; Gretchen Fuhr digitizing a 1976 photo and obtaining a copy of the 2025 yearbook for inclusion; Larry Fisher pursuing food-truck logistics for a Sept. 26 block party; and Michelle Gustison confirming a Garden Club donation for the silent auction tied to the prom.
The committee also approved minutes from Feb. 25, 2026 during the meeting. The next committee meeting is scheduled for March 26 at 6:00 p.m. in the Merrimac Police Department Conference Room.
