Shiocton trustees approve fall fest street closures, operator license and flexible employee hours; opt to keep AT&T tower lease income

The Village of Shiocton Board of Trustees on Aug. 12 voted to allow the Shiocton Business League to close the same streets used for National Night Out for a fall fest planned Sept. 21, and approved several routine personnel and financial items.
Trustee Jenny Schmoock called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and the board approved the minutes from July. Jill Leopold, representing the Shiocton Business League, asked the board to permit street closures for the fall fest, which the league said will feature food trucks, craft vendors and scholarship fundraising. Trustees voted to allow the closures (M/S/P Bunnell/Gomm).
The board approved an operator license for Tina Goodwin after a motion by Trustee Dawes and a second from Trustee Tyler (M/S/P). The finance committee presented bills and vouchers; after discussion the board approved them as presented (M/S/P Schmoock/Dawes).
Clerk Laurie Sweeney told trustees that AT&T operates a communications tower on village property and pays a monthly lease fee. Sweeney said the company asked whether the village would renegotiate the contract when it comes due next year and that two companies later expressed interest in buying the lease; one reportedly offered $180,000. After discussion the board said it prefers continued monthly income and to retain control over the lease rather than accept a sale offer.
Sweeney also asked the minutes to reflect that employees may voluntarily adjust hours — skipping lunch or starting earlier and leaving earlier — to accommodate weather or plowing schedules, provided office and DPW coverage is maintained. The board approved documenting that voluntary adjusted schedules are permitted (M/S/P Dawes/Woods); the record notes employees sometimes bring phones home to answer calls and attempt to maintain at least one person at the plant until 3:30 p.m.
The meeting concluded after routine reports from public works and the police department. With no further business, trustees adjourned at 6:38 p.m.
