Sterling Family Day committee confirms $8,000 fireworks contract, approves menu and tent repairs

The Sterling Family Day Committee on June 23 confirmed key logistics and spending for this year’s event, approving a fireworks contract, a menu change for the October dinner, and an authorization to buy supplies to secure the event tent.
M. Molodich, serving as chair, reported that discussions with the pyrotechnics vendor have concluded and the committee will pay $8,000 for a fireworks display that will provide the same duration as in prior years. The committee also reviewed fundraising and programming items, including continuing duck-ticket sales and an $800 contribution turned in by the Family Day store.
Committee member L. Cooper moved to change the Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026 dinner from pasta to chicken; L. Hopkins seconded the motion and it was approved by the committee. Later in the meeting, J. Angelone moved to allow the members responsible for erecting the event tent to purchase any supplies necessary to make the tent secure and safe; L. Hopkins seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The treasurer’s report, presented and accepted after a motion by J. Gooslin and second by M. Morneau, showed $10,744.88 in the checking account and $9,753.71 in the rainy day fund. The committee discussed additional event planning items: a potential yard sale at the SMB gym on Nov. 7, 2026, advertising strategies that favor low-cost flyers over the Turnpike Buyer classified ad, and recruiting more demonstration acts for Family Day. The band 'Socks with Sandals' was noted as a suitable performer.
Members also reported receiving a thank-you from SCS school for the dunk tank rented for their field day. The committee adjourned at 8:02 p.m.; the next meeting is set for Tuesday, July 28 at 7 p.m. at the SMB.
