Residents press Sterling selectmen on solar project as CT Siting Council delays decision to 2027

Residents at Sterling’s July 1 meeting urged local officials to press for clarity and emergency-service coordination around a proposed solar project while the matter remains before the Connecticut Siting Council. During the audience of citizens, Kim Gunn raised town involvement and school-fleet priorities and Donna Gagnon said she had “sent a letter to the CT Siting Council & to J. Joslyn but never received a response.”
Karen Izzo told the board that the CT Siting Council had postponed an Aug. 19, 2026 decision to February 2027 “due to an interconnection interest from Sterling Property, LLC & Pure Hedge, LLC.” Selectman Jack Joslyn said he would look into the postponement and told the meeting he has been in contact with the solar company and local fire department personnel. “There would be a meeting with those necessary once the solar panels are installed,” Joslyn said.
Resident Ryan Salvas also raised concerns about potential repercussions if a state decision were to deny the application. The discussion was recorded under Unfinished Business as the selectmen noted the public comments had covered the item and that the matter remains under the purview of the CT Siting Council.
The board did not take a formal vote on the project. Joslyn said he would follow up on the postponement and community questions, and the selectmen referred ongoing procedural and safety coordination to future discussions.
