Council renews Comcast local franchise agreement, Comcast liaison addresses council

The Richmond City Council approved renewal of the uniform video service local franchise agreement with Comcast and authorized the city manager to sign the agreement.
City staff explained that the franchise was last approved in 2016 and that a state law (Public Act 480) standardized franchise agreements across Michigan; that law requires a 30-day window for local reaction once the franchise is received. Shannon Doolin (speaker 9), director of government and community affairs for Comcast, introduced herself and offered to serve as the primary point of contact for residents and city staff.
Council moved to approve the franchise renewal and to authorize the city manager to sign the agreement; the motion passed by voice vote. Doolin provided business cards and said she would follow up with the cable commission, which will also review the item in July.
