President Martinez presided as the Glendale Elementary School District Governing Board on May 28 unanimously authorized Superintendent Cynthia Segata Jones to accept a plaintiff's proposed stipulation to dismiss litigation identified on the record as CV2020-017452, and then approved the superintendent's employment contract.
The motions were taken after the board recessed for an executive session held under Arizona law (ARS 38-431.03(A)(3) and (A)(4)) to consult with legal counsel and to discuss the superintendent's contract. On returning to public session the board moved and voted on action items 7a and 7b. Both motions carried with unanimous "aye" votes from the five members present.
Why it matters: authorizing acceptance of the stipulation resolves an outstanding legal case against the district and approving the superintendent's contract secures district leadership heading into the next school year, giving the board and administration a defined governance path for coming personnel and operational matters.
Details of the votes and motions A board member moved to authorize the superintendent to accept the plaintiff's proposed stipulation to dismiss case number CV2020-017452; the motion was seconded and adopted by the full board. Shortly afterward a motion to approve the employment contract of Cynthia Segata Jones was made, seconded and likewise approved by unanimous vote.
Superintendent remarks and next steps Superintendent Cynthia Segata Jones presented a short year-end video and thanked staff, teachers and administrators for what she described as a "wonderful 2025-26 school year." She noted the district will continue work on student growth measures and asked the community to vote in upcoming elections.
Board scheduling and data notes Miss Segata Jones told the board the district will not have AASA data available by the proposed June 25 study session; she said letter grades would not be available but that the district could provide other growth measures, including AzELLA results, for review. The board was notified of routine items slated for June 11 and a proposed special meeting on June 25 for a study session on assessment data and budget-related items.
Governing board reports Board members used the later portion of the meeting for short reports. Mr. Jaramillo described lessons from a school closure in the Peoria District and urged advance planning to protect staff and jobs should closure ever be considered. Miss Wilson, Miss Bartels and Miss Pimentel offered year-end thanks to teachers, support staff and students.
The board adjourned following unanimous agreement. The board's next regular meeting is scheduled for June 11; a proposed special study session is set for June 25.
