Council approved a professional services agreement on July 6 to retain consulting services for engineering, bidding and construction administration related to the South Augusta low-voltage system conversion.
Staff reminded council that prior actions (a charter ordinance and a resolution) set the bonding framework for the project and that the city is now past the petition protest period and preparing for a rating call and bond sale. Staff said the procurement will combine cash on hand with bond financing and that early procurement of equipment and preparation of bid documents are already underway.
A consultant described the city’s choice to seek a level of consultant involvement sufficient to prepare engineering specs and bid documents without performing full design, noting the approach protects the city while keeping costs reasonable. The professional services action approved a not-to-exceed amount of $77,000 for engineering design, bidding and construction administration services for the South Augusta low-voltage conversion project.
The motion to approve the agreement was made, seconded and carried.
