The Williamson City Council unanimously approved several municipal code and zoning changes at its Feb. 5 meeting, including a revision to the Board of Ethics rules to allow payment to an appointed attorney and adoption of sign-ordinance and zoning-text amendments.
In a first reading and subsequent vote, council amended Section 2-6-6 to remove language that previously barred compensating an appointed attorney; the council approved paying a member of the state bar $150 per hour for meeting attendance and time spent researching cases (motion recorded Carol Berry/Stephen Levin; vote 5-0).
Separately, council approved the second reading of a revised sign ordinance by motion (Carol Berry/Stephen Levin) and accepted zoning text amendments to section 156.023 (Carol Berry/John Smithson), each by unanimous 5-0 votes as recorded in the minutes. The planning commission continues to evaluate associated fence regulations and permitting-process updates.
Council members framed the ethics-code amendment as a procedural change to allow compensated legal attendance when needed; the minutes show the council voted without recorded dissent. The ordinances and zoning changes were adopted at the meeting and recorded as accepted in the meeting minutes.
