Organizers preview expanded National Night Out event for August

Tom Kirkham presented plans for the county-level National Night Out event scheduled for Aug. 4 at Detroit City Park. He said organizers expect the largest turnout to date, with about 90 vendors or organizations and roughly 17 food vendors (restaurants rather than trucks); participants will include police and fire departments, VA organizations, county agencies, canine and drone demonstrations and victim-witness and mental‑health service providers. Kirkham described the event as free to the public and noted organizers operate as a nonprofit under the Floyd Foundation; he asked council members to publicize the event and encouraged attendance.
Council members thanked organizers and city staff for coordinating the countywide event. The presentation emphasized outreach and community safety resources available at the event and the volunteer effort behind it.
