Matthew Cole of Pax Maris Maritime updated the Town of Cecilton on Nov. 18, saying the organization recently received an IRS determination as a 501(c) public charity, accepted a donated primary vessel, and is planning new training programs.
Cole told the council Pax Maris will offer a certified ADYC program beginning in March 2025 and a technician apprenticeship program starting in the fall of 2025. He said the organization is developing additional apprenticeships and would like to establish an address or facility in Cecilton where it can provide public-benefit services.
Cole asked the council to note the organization’s new status and its interest in locating in town. The council did not take formal action on the request during the meeting, and no financial commitments or property agreements were reported in the transcript.
The town may receive further requests if Pax Maris pursues a lease or seeks municipal support for site development.
