Slinger Police Commission holds closed-session interviews for police chief candidates

The Village of Slinger Police Commission met at 5:00 p.m. on Sept. 19, 2024, at 300 Slinger Road and moved into a closed session to interview candidates for the police chief position.

Chairperson Ken Leeson told members that the meeting notice had been posted and that open-meeting law requirements had been met. The commission cited Wisconsin Statute 19.85(1) as the basis for closing the meeting to consider employment, promotion or performance-evaluation data related to police chief candidates. Ken Vlasak moved to go into closed session and John Dukelow seconded; the motion, which also allowed Chief of Police Dean Schmidt and Village Administrator Margaret Wilber to attend the closed session, passed on a unanimous roll-call vote (Leeson, Schmid, Vlasak, Dukelow, Wolf).

Minutes show the commission returned to open session at 7:33 p.m. after the interviews. Craig Wolf moved and John Dukelow seconded the motion to return to open session; the roll-call vote was unanimous. The minutes contain no record of a hiring decision, appointment, or other formal action resulting from the closed-session interviews. The meeting was then adjourned on a motion by John Dukelow, seconded by Rob Schmid.
