Slinger Police Commission approves three candidates for officer eligibility list after closed-session interviews

The motion to enter closed session was made by Ken Vlasak and seconded by Craig Wolf; the roll call vote was recorded in favor by Leeson, Vlasak, Dukelow, Schmid and Wolf at 1:02 p.m.
Chief of Police Dean Schmidt and Lieutenants Joshua Gullickson and Joe Cashin were permitted to attend the closed session; the minutes note Lieutenant Gullickson and Lieutenant Cashin left the meeting at 3:20 p.m., and Village Administrator Margaret Wilber joined the meeting at 3:35 p.m. The commission returned to open session at 3:46 p.m. by roll call vote.
The minutes state interviews were completed for three police officer candidates and that the Police Commission "approved (3) candidates to be considered for hire by the Slinger Police Department." The candidates approved for consideration are listed in the minutes as Shane Droste, Nathaniel Schweitzer and Katherine Brogli. The minutes do not record a separate public roll call tally for that approval nor a mover and seconder for that specific action.
Earlier in the meeting, members approved the minutes from the June 11, 2024 Police Commission meeting on a motion by Vice-Chairperson Rob Schmid, seconded by John Dukelow. The meeting was adjourned at 3:49 p.m. on a motion by Craig Wolf, seconded by Ken Vlasak.
According to the minutes, next procedural steps are that the three candidates will be considered for hire by the Slinger Police Department; the minutes do not specify hire dates, conditional offers, or additional background or onboarding requirements.
