UN seeks $296 million more for Venezuela quake response as relief needs expand

The United Nations emergency relief coordinator in Venezuela briefed member states and appealed for an additional $296,000,000 to provide life-saving support over six months to an estimated 1.3 million people affected by recent earthquakes. The spokesperson said the addendum to the 2026 humanitarian response plan — which previously required $632,000,000 — will help the UN and partners support government-led response efforts with food, shelter, health care, water, sanitation and hygiene assistance.
To date, roughly $300,000,000 has been received for the response, leaving a reported funding gap of approximately $600,000,000 with the addendum included. The emergency relief coordinator thanked donors for contributions so far and urged additional support as response efforts move from search-and-rescue to broader humanitarian response and recovery.
