Norwalk City School Board approves personnel slate including resignations, stipends and new hire

The Norwalk City School Board approved a slate of personnel actions that included three resignations, multiple summer and supplemental contracts, and a new teacher hire.
Superintendent (speaker 2) told the board that Patty Kludin will retire at the end of June after serving in multiple roles across the district; Aurelia Villalobos Ramos, an ELA staff member, is leaving for another position; and transportation assistant Alexander Presley’s separation was effective April 17, 2026. The superintendent said Kludin would be recognized at the June meeting for her service.
The board also approved a range of summer support positions and supplemental contracts, including support-staff hires at an advertised rate of $13.75 per hour, cafeteria supervision and summer food-program staffing, and lists of coaches and club advisors for Norwalk High School and Norwalk Middle School. The superintendent said many summer positions are college students returning for programming and cleaning and emphasized the value of consistency in coaching and advising.
Grant-funded stipends included one for Donell Orzech to support computer-science programming and Project Lead The Way launch training stipends paid from Title II-A funds. The superintendent named Jackie White and Gerald Engelhardt as trained handlers for the district dog Kepler, and identified Heather Loomis and a teacher as secondary handlers so Kepler can visit more buildings.
A correction to a previously approved coach step was recorded: Kelly Baker’s assistant softball position was changed from step 5 to step 6. The board approved an extended-school-year service for Savannah Golden to work with a student.
Greg Silcox, introduced by the superintendent as a newly hired teacher, spoke briefly: "I'm really glad to be home," he said, adding he was excited to return after several years away. The superintendent welcomed him back and said he will be effective on the contract start date listed in the personnel packet.
Chair moved to approve items 7.1 through 7.14 under personnel; the motion was seconded. The roll-call responses recorded affirmative votes from Mr. Ritzenthaler, Mr. Norris, Mrs. Burkett, Mrs. Crawford and Mr. Gonzales, and the personnel slate was approved.
Next steps: the board will recognize retirees, including Patty Kludin, at its June meeting.
