Craig Acker sworn in as Lawton chief of police and outlines community-focused priorities

Craig Acker was sworn in as Lawton's new chief of police during a special council meeting. A judge administered the oath and Acker repeated it, pledging to "support, obey, and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and the State of Oklahoma" and to "faithfully discharge the duties of my office" as chief of police for the city.

City Manager (name not specified) introduced Acker as the council's newly appointed chief, noting his years of experience rising through patrol to captain. In his remarks, Acker thanked the manager and his family and outlined priorities for the department: continue the community engagement work begun by his predecessor, evaluate department operations to reduce crime and improve efficiency, seek grants and outside funding for equipment and training, and develop mentorship and supervisory training so younger officers are ready to advance. "This being a police officer is by far the most rewarding profession there is," Acker said.

The council applauded and expressed support for the chief's stated priorities, including the "Kids 1st" initiative Acker referenced. The oath was administered on the record; the council did not take new formal action in the meeting to alter his appointment during the ceremony.
