District posts emergency response plan draft for 30-day public comment

The West Islip Union Free School District announced at its July 7 meeting that a draft of the district emergency response plan has been posted on the district website and is open for a 30-day public comment period via a Google form. "There is a requirement with New York State that the emergency response plan for the district must be posted on the website and there can be a comment period of 30 days," the district administrator said.
The announcement clarified that individual building emergency response plans are confidential for safety reasons and will be reviewed by central administration in executive session before the school year. The district said it will provide time at the August board meeting for members of the public to comment on the plan and expects to approve the district plan at that meeting.
The posted draft includes an updated cardiac response plan and revisions to location listings such as the transportation hub; the district encouraged community members to submit feedback through the online form during the comment window.
