Sheriff’s office reports district stations, CALEA accreditation progress and deputy recognition

At the Aug. 28 Police Accountability Board meeting, representatives from the sheriff’s office updated the board on operational changes, accreditation work and staffing tactics intended to increase local presence.
A sheriff’s office speaker said the county’s patrol operation has been divided into three geographic districts (north, middle and south) and the office leased former bank buildings to use as district stations. The change was described as aimed at keeping deputies in their districts, reducing time spent traveling to headquarters for routine needs and improving local deterrence.
"We recognized the need to divide and conquer," the speaker said, describing steps to outfit leased space with cameras and a public safe exchange area and noting the long-term goal of staffing the stations more consistently, including eventual 24/7 service and civilian support staff.
The sheriff’s representatives also reported progress toward CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) reaccreditation, saying the department has worked through budget constraints and assigned a CALEA manager to the effort. They described participation in other departments’ accreditation assessments and some recent personnel adjustments related to school resource officer contracts.
The board also congratulated Corporal Dietrich on receiving a national-level deputy award; the sheriff’s representative said the corporal previously received regional and state recognition.
The sheriff’s office representatives told the board that the MOU with the county attorney has worked smoothly and that no immediate changes to the MOU appear necessary.
The chair thanked the sheriff’s representatives and closed the exchange by inviting further updates as accreditation and district staffing evolve.
