The Smithville Board of Aldermen met June 16 for a budget retreat at The TreeHouse at Liberty Hospital to review projections and give staff direction on the FY2027 budget. Mayor Damien Boley called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.
Utilities Operation Manager Dave Schuerger provided an update on the city’s fire hydrant maintenance program, outlining operational maintenance needs tied to the utilities system. The presentation flagged hydrant upkeep as an item relevant to the utilities portion of the coming year’s budget.
Staff then reviewed current revenue and expenditure projections and led a discussion on priorities for FY2027. Board members focused the discussion on compensation and benefits, requests for additional funding for facilities, and utility needs. The board provided general direction to staff for development of the FY2027 budget; no formal motions or votes were recorded in the retreat minutes.
Mayor Damien Boley and the board concluded the retreat and adjourned at 1:51 p.m. Staff will prepare the FY2027 budget materials consistent with the guidance provided during the retreat for consideration in upcoming meetings.
