Brownsville board approves $576,099 in payments, awards $26,000 tennis-court contract and sets rental rates

The Village of Brownsville Board approved audited disbursements totaling $576,099.31 and moved forward on multiple contracts and fee changes at its Feb. 12, 2025 meeting.
Clerk/Treasurer Hull told the board that 2024 tax settlements had been completed and reconciled with Dodge County and that February settlement payments had been made to Dodge County ($151,234.09), Lomira School District ($315,151.91) and Moraine Park Technical College ($24,558.27). Hull also reported that an additional Express Vote machine had arrived and that the village will purchase privacy panels for both machines. Recodification work with the Plan Commission is underway and a Deluxe credit-card payment portal is being tested.
The board audited and approved general government and utility bills totaling $576,099.31 (checks numbered 30669 to 30711 among others). The check register included vendor payments such as Village insurance ($36,268.00 to Horton Group, Inc.), the village’s fire contract payment ($12,000.00 to Brownsville Fire Co., Inc.), municipal well inspection and repairs ($11,660.00), and the Express Vote package ($3,950.00). A motion to approve the listing of February payments carried 4-aye.
On capital and maintenance work, the board approved a $26,000 bid from Midwest Seal to refurbish the village tennis courts. The motion to award the contract, moved by Trustee John Pesch and seconded by Trustee Dan Henke, carried 3-aye, 1-nay.
Trustees also voted to set user fees for village facilities. The board approved park rental rates of $50 for residents and $100 for non-residents with a $25 refundable deposit, and Community Center rental rates of $200 for residents and $400 for non-residents with a $250 refundable deposit; both motions carried 4-aye. The board accepted Clark’s Mowtivated Lawn Care’s 2025 rate of $45 per hour for lawn services; that motion carried 4-aye.
The meeting concluded with the board confirming its March meeting date as March 12 and adjourning at 7:16 p.m.
