Bloomington board commits $5,000 to Safe Step sidewalk repairs and orders local fixes

President Robert McLimans proposed committing $5,000 from the 2026 budget to try the program; trustees voted to hire Safe Step for that amount.
Leitzinger agreed to develop a plan identifying sidewalks that could be candidates for elimination and to provide cost estimates for removals. The board separately approved a contractor quote of $1,500 to repair a crack/lip in the sidewalk near the Legion building.
Leitzinger also presented a $3,075 quote to fix a storm drain at BCN and Pleasant streets, noting the amount might change after field verification of underground piping, and raised the issue of grease traps after citing a recent sewer blockage caused by grease buildup. Board members asked President McLimans to follow up with Building Inspector Josh Copsey on potential ordinance or code remedies for grease management at local businesses.
