The Vernon village board voted on a series of routine and substantive items, approving equipment maintenance for the village generator, a municipal employment-law retainer, operator-license renewals and several local event and storefront permits, while tabling funding for a Townline Road project.
Chair (speaker 1) moved to approve an equipment maintenance proposal from Cummings for the village generator conditional on receipt of an updated proposal; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The chair said the money for the work will be allocated from the Department of Public Works budget.
The board approved bills totaling $99,971.26 after a motion to pay as presented. The board also approved an agreement with PFC (attorney engagement for employment-related matters) after trustees said the fees were reasonable for specialized counsel; one trustee urged that the signed contract be expedited.
Licenses and permits approved by the board included operator-license renewals for 2024–25 (including Lindsay Dukowski and Anna Marish), a transient merchant application for Craigler Farms at Clark Street in Edgemond, and a conditional use permit for a storefront/showroom for Ideal Windows at W. 231 Sub 7680 Big Bend Drive (property owner: Reston Recall Investments LLC). The board also approved a special event recommendation for Papastache for Sept. 21, 2024, and a special private-event permit for Vichy’s / Richie’s Bar.
The board discussed acquiring funds for its portion of the Townline Road project (the village’s share was described as just over $120,000) but tabled action because an invoice for services had not been received. The item will return when documentation is available.
A Bags and Brew barbecue (class B temporary beer license) for the fire association was postponed due to scheduling conflicts and was tabled until a final date and required documentation are provided.
The board briefly entered closed session under Wisconsin Stat. 19.85(1)(c) to consider employment-related agreements (the police chief’s and public works superintendent’s working agreements) and returned to open session; the board then discussed and took possible action on items from closed session.
What this means: Most routine contracts and permits were approved by voice vote. Townline Road funding requires an invoice before the board will act.
