Bloomington trustees approve event licenses, authorize sump‑pump fines and file road‑aid application

At the Sept. 2 meeting the Village of Bloomington board handled routine administrative matters including event permits, code enforcement and grant applications.

Trustees unanimously approved a temporary alcohol license for St. Mary’s Congregation’s Fall Festival (Sept. 13–14, 2025) and a license for the Blake’s Prairie Fair Board’s 10th annual Battle of the Bog mud bog (Sept. 21, 2025). Clerk/Treasurer Shawna Atterbury confirmed all required forms had been submitted; she credited new secretary Jessica Mueller with ensuring compliance.

On code enforcement, Clerk Atterbury noted ordinances allow fines for sump pump violations to be added to property taxes and said Officer Small had sent notification letters to noncompliant owners. The board identified at least one repeat noncompliant property at 825 Fourth Street and named owner Tyler Crubel as reported refusing to address violations; trustees voted to proceed with fines after notifications (motion by Scott Daentl, seconded by Al Mergen). The fine amount will follow the existing ordinance.

McLimans reported the village filed a 2026 Grant County Road Aid application specifying culvert work at First Street & County Road A and Fourth Street & State Hwy 35; the village may apply for up to $2,000 and awards are determined next year. The board scheduled a finance committee meeting for Sept. 23 to begin preparing the 2026 budget. Clerk Atterbury reported the Demographic Services Center’s preliminary Jan. 1, 2025 population estimate for Bloomington is 741, with about 547 residents of voting age.

The board went into a closed session under Wis. Stat. 19.85 for personnel matters and then reconvened in open session. Trustees adjourned the meeting and set their next regular session for Oct. 6, 2025 at 6:00 p.m.
