Superintendent and school leaders describe PSAT gains and rollout of MTSS and digital assessment tools

Dr. Moore said the district received 802 scored PSAT tests, with roughly 94 percent of 10th graders and 83 percent of 11th graders participating. He said preliminary analysis places the district’s tested students in approximately the 90th–93rd state percentile on reading, writing and math among participating peers, and that small cohorts of 9th graders identified as ready for the test performed strongly.
Matthew (from the Hammocks) described the middle‑school MTSS (Multi‑Tiered System of Supports) protocol the school has instituted to align assessments, tiered interventions and professional development so teachers, counselors and case managers can monitor growth and tailor help while preserving access to enrichment. He emphasized that MTSS is for all students and highlighted the importance of timelines for testing interventions and returning students to enrichment once needs are met.
Lena (from the high school) and other MHS presenters described work to build horizontal consistency across course sections, common assessments and shared rubrics. They said the district introduced a digital assessment platform (Formative) to enable quick checks for understanding, audio tasks for world languages, built‑in testing accommodations and enrichment extensions; staff also noted OpenArchitects as a platform to aggregate data for teacher and counselor use.
Board members asked how teachers will use micro‑level data in practice, how counselors will synthesize profiles for student planning, and when parents will be able to see data; presenters said aggregation/dashboards and a student portfolio are planned next steps and that administrators are working on report‑card and communication strategies.
The board did not take formal action on curriculum or assessment purchases during the meeting; staff said implementation details and parent‑facing reporting will be developed over the coming months.
