The Town Board accepted a $35,000 donation from the Virginia Maguire Foundation and authorized a $69,500 traffic‑signal improvement project at Myrtle Boulevard and North Chatsworth on Dec. 17, 2025.
Staff said the foundation will provide $15,000 up front and the remaining $20,000 upon project completion. The project scope aims to resolve confusion around the northbound right‑hand lane and to provide clearer pedestrian protections at the intersection; staff recommended selecting alternate option 2 to provide the greater set of improvements.
One board member described past issues at the intersection and the safety rationale for the work: “It eliminates any kind of confusion or any opportunity to turn while people are walking,” the board member said, noting prior signage changes had not addressed all conflict points. Another member thanked residents who advocated for the change and the donors who helped make it possible.
The board moved to accept the donation and separately moved to authorize the project at an estimated cost of $69,500 and to authorize the town administrator to sign any documents required for implementation. The motions passed on voice votes.
Implementation: Staff indicated the project will move forward with design and procurement; the town will apply the donated funds toward the specified intersection improvements and return to the board with implementation details as they are finalized.
