Council backs creation of seasonal pool director role and raises lifeguard pay

The Weyauwega Common Council moved on Feb. 16 to create a new Event Coordinator/Seasonal Pool Director job and to advertise lifeguard positions at $15.00 per hour and a concession-stand position at $12.00 per hour for the 2026 Swim Lake season. The Recreation Committee had proposed combining Rec Director and Swim Lake Director duties and offering later evening swim periods designated "swim at your own risk" without lifeguards on duty to reduce lifeguard shift lengths.
Councilmember Chris Gunderson made the motion to create the new job title and to post the job advertisements; Kesha Butzin seconded both motions. Both motions carried with all ayes. Committee members were asked to bring job-description examples to the next Recreation Committee meeting.
The proposed pay increase for lifeguards and new scheduling model aim to balance staffing costs and safety responsibilities; the Council did not specify final shift schedules or the number of lifeguards to be hired.
