At the Whitehall School District meeting, the board approved a series of routine personnel and operational motions and heard staff describe a possible opt-in mental-health screening program.
Chair called for separate votes to approve two requests for early graduation. For Student A (female), the board approved early graduation after staff reported she meets district requirements and has been accepted to the University of Montana. The Chair moved, "I move the approval for student a for early graduation at the semester," and the motion passed by voice vote. The board then approved Student B (male) for early graduation following similar staff confirmation of readiness and employment plans.
The board also approved declaring obsolete technology and industrial-arts equipment surplus and available for public sale. The list included monitors, switches, routers, nine iPads and multiple shop tools (lathes, table saw, dust collector, compressors); the superintendent recommended declaring the items obsolete and releasing them for sale.
In hiring actions, the board approved a slate of recommended staff for the 21st Century after-school and Friday programs (names listed in the packet) and approved hiring Barbara Peck as a part-time kitchen helper, citing her roughly 20 years of food-service experience and prior CNA work. The board also approved additions to the substitute-teacher list (Lily Mears, Laura Engler and Alex Carr) and approved elementary and high-school claims and accounts.
The board discussed a mental-health screening and support service described as RBHI (the transcript expanded the name as Bridal Behavioral Health Institute). Mr. Slater said RBHI is a nonprofit operating in 75 schools across 27 counties and reported it is "grant funded through the Department of Health and Human Services primarily." He described the program as providing an initial on-site setup and training and then telehealth-based follow-up; implementation would be opt-in under board policy and staff (nurse/counselor) would spearhead it.
Votes at a glance: Student A early graduation ' approved; Student B early graduation ' approved; obsolete equipment sale ' approved; hire 21st Century staff ' approved; hire Barbara Peck (kitchen helper) ' approved; approve substitute list additions ' approved; approve elementary claims ' approved; approve high-school claims ' approved; meeting adjourned.
What's next: staff will continue to explore RBHI options and the superintendent/district representatives will update the board on any implementation details or required approvals before service begins.
