White Lake trustees endorse BEAD broadband support, OK water grant application, advance fireworks payment and vacate Bissell Street

White Lake trustees on Jan. 14 nominated incumbents Tom Edelman and Patsy Listle for the April 1, 2025 ballot and approved a slate of routine actions affecting local services and property.
The meeting opened with a short caucus chaired by Frank Skarlupka; Myra Oatman nominated Patsy Listle for trustee and Kahla Caraballo nominated Tom Edelman for village president. Skarlupka announced both incumbents will be on the April ballot.
In new business the board voted to provide a letter of support for Bertram Wireless Communications LLC’s application to the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) grant program, a move trustees said is intended to support expanded broadband opportunities in Langlade County. The motion was moved by Tom Edelman and seconded by Patsy Listle and recorded as All Ayes, motion carried.
Trustees also authorized a contract with MSA to prepare and file a Safe Drinking Water grant application for the village; the minutes identify MSA only by name and do not specify any additional details about the firm’s role beyond preparing the application (motion by Frank Skarlupka, seconded by Patsy Listle; All Ayes, motion carried).
The board approved an advance payment to My Uncle’s Fireworks representing half of the 2025 fireworks budget, which the minutes list as $7,500 (motion moved by Patsy Listle and seconded by Frank Skarlupka; All Ayes, motion carried). Trustees approved purchasing a second laptop for the village office at a price not to exceed $1,500 and accepted the White Lake Community Service Fund as a village account with an opening balance reported as $1,623.94.
A requested change order from Schulz Heating & Cooling related to a generator grant was tabled pending further information. Trustees approved vacating Bissell Street as shown on the survey maps presented for the Robbins Mill property; Tom Edelman moved the motion and Patsy Listle seconded.
Trustee reports included a boat-launch financial summary presented by Patsy Listle (income for 2019–2024 reported as $4,628.630, expenses $1,136.00 and a remaining balance reported as $3,626.94); the minutes record these figures as reported, though they are internally inconsistent arithmetically. Fire Department Chief Brandon Tegen read the Jan. 7 fire department minutes. Clerk Carol Blawat reminded the board of a Feb. 18 primary election for State School Superintendent and an upcoming Feb. 13–14 audit by Kerber Rose Accounting. Public Works Supervisor Scott Popelka reported on plow-truck blade replacements, lowered frost concerns, that a village pond has completed discharging and his planned vacation dates.
