Forest Acres recognizes AC Flora teams, receives AED donation and secures opioid-settlement grant

The council meeting on Feb. 10 included a series of community recognitions and grant updates.
Mayor Tom Andrews presented a resolution honoring the AC Flora Girls Tennis team for winning the 4A state championship, and Mayor Pro-tem Haskell Kibler presented a resolution honoring the AC Flora Competitive Cheer 4A state champions.
Members of the Sertoma Club presented a $2,000 donation to the Forest Acres Public Safety Foundation to help replace automated external defibrillators for the Forest Acres Police Department. Later, Council member Ryan Newton and Police Chief Don Robinson presented Sgt. Leighton Jenny as the Foundation's Employee of the Year.
Assistant City Administrator Kendall Adams said the city is executing a $52,000 SCORF grant from the opioid settlement in partnership with Oliver Gospel to launch an anti-drug campaign with the police department and to target youth through a marketing program. The city plans to pursue additional state grants for the coming year.
Staff also announced the 5th Annual Sweep the Acres cleanup scheduled for March 28, 2026, with sponsorship from Handles and Lazy Daisy Coffee Shop, and noted Citadel Park will remain closed for renovation until April 1, 2026.
