Weyauwega council approves $59,972 ballfield drainage and concrete work, pauses planned equipment purchase

The Weyauwega Common Council on March 17 approved a $59,972.22 contract with Advanced Exteriorscapes to address drainage issues and install tiered concrete at the city ballfield.

Police Chief Brandon Leschke described remaining drainage problems and washouts at the field and said the concrete tiers will let spectators bring lawn chairs and accommodate future picnic tables. John Mueller, with Advanced Exteriorscapes, presented the contractor’s proposal and noted the quote does not include the railing shown in his presentation.

Mayor Rich Luedke said the city will seek a separate bid for about 140 feet of railing, and that the concrete work would be paid from the capital budget. Council members agreed to put a planned Bobcat purchase for Public Works on hold to free funds for the project. Council member Austin Baehnman moved to approve the quote; Chris Gunderson seconded and the motion carried with all ayes.

Leaning on the council’s capital budget for the project, officials discussed, but did not finalize, contributions or fundraising from the Youth Ball League. Chief Leschke reported conversations with Brian Doherty of the Youth Ball League; Doherty had discussed a possible $5,000 donation or multi-year commitment but offered no final pledge at the meeting.

The council approved the contract and directed staff to solicit a separate bid for railing installation and to coordinate with the ball league on any fundraising or future commitments. The work and procurement steps will proceed under the city’s capital-project process.
