Hamburg Area School District board approves $58.49 million budget and multiple contracts, hires

The Hamburg Area School District Board of Directors approved the 2026–27 General Fund Proposed Final Budget of $58,490,600 at its May 11 meeting in the James A. Gilmartin Community Room.
The budget motion was moved by Director Daniel Sarna and seconded by Carson Adams; the roll‑call vote was 6–0 in favor. Business Manager Michele Zimmerman presented the proposal and said the final budget will be posted on the district website.
The board also approved several contract and financial items during a series of unanimous roll‑call votes. Directors approved an extension of the Family Guidance Center social workers contract through 2028 (motion by Tonia Krick, seconded by Steven Gilbert), and they approved a digital scoreboard contract (motion by Steven Gilbert, seconded by Tonia Krick). The board approved settlement agreements and mutual releases of claims with Pennwood Cyber Charter School and PA Virtual Charter School as presented (motion by Tonia Krick, seconded by Daniel Sarna). The minutes and motions reflect unanimous 6–0 votes on those items.
The board accepted financial reports from the Business Manager, including the General Fund Treasurer’s Report, Food Service profit-and-loss statements and invoices, Capital Reserve and Debt Service reports, and activity fund reports. The board approved Food Service invoices and payments totaling $66,751.23 (check nos. 0000008789 and D000000991–D000001002) and High School Activity Fund checks totaling $8,467.95 (check nos. 0000014011–0000014029); Middle School Activity Fund checks of $400.00 were also approved.
Directors approved support position descriptions for Custodian, Building Maintenance Technician and Ground Maintenance Technician (motion by Carson Adams, seconded by Daniel Sarna) and a slate of personnel actions. Approved professional hires included Marissa Rhode as a Tilden Elementary Autistic Support Teacher (effective 08/18/2026, annual salary $57,163). The board approved a temporary professional hire, Shyann Weighknecht, as a Tilden Elementary classroom teacher (effective 08/18/2026, annual salary $53,163), multiple summer custodial hires, extra‑curricular game help and several building‑level volunteers. Superintendent Christopher Beissel introduced Shyann Weighknecht, who addressed the board and thanked members for the opportunity.
The board adjourned at 7:51 p.m. The minutes were recorded as approved on June 22, 2026 and signed by President Ryan J. Gebely and Board Secretary Nicolette A. Hoover.
