Franklin Lakes Board holds first readings of multiple policies and creates Safety and Security Committee

At its Sept. 30 meeting the Franklin Lakes Board of Education advanced a slate of policy items through first reading and approved the establishment of a Safety and Security Committee.

The board conducted first readings of several revised policies, including Policy 0173 (Duties of Public School Accountant), Policy 0174 (Legal Services), Policy 0177 (Professional Services), Policy 1570 (Internal Controls), Policy 1620 (Administrative Employment Contracts), Policy 6111 (Special Education Medicaid Initiative), Policy 6220 (Budget Preparation), Policy 0143 (Board Member Election and Appointment) and others. The board also approved first readings of new policies 1636.01 (Notification of Promotion, New Job, and Transfer Opportunities), 5339.01 (Student Sun Protection) and 9163 (Spectator Code of Conduct for Athletic Events). These actions were recorded as first readings and do not constitute final adoption.

The board approved the abolishment of Policy 1648.15 (Recordkeeping for Healthcare Settings in School Buildings - Covid-19) and Policy 5710 (Student Grievance) as noted on the agenda. As part of the consent agenda the board also approved Resolution No. 1959 establishing a Safety and Security Committee to address district safety and security topics; the resolution indicates the committee is established upon the superintendent’s recommendation.

Minutes show these policy items were presented on first read as part of the regular policy review and will return for subsequent consideration where required by district rules.
