Franklin Lakes Board approves part-time strings teacher appointment, substitute hires and stipends

The Franklin Lakes Board of Education approved multiple personnel actions on Sept. 30, including the appointment of a part-time instrumental music teacher, the authorization of per-diem substitute employees and adjustments to stipends for lunch duty and band support.

Under Resolution No. 1942 the board approved hiring Agustin Tecalero as a part-time district instrumental music (strings) teacher for the 2025–26 school year at a Step 1, Class BA salary of $58,500, prorated to .50, effective Oct. 1, 2025–June 30, 2026. The board authorized the superintendent to apply for emergent approval of the hire to the Commissioner of Education under N.J.S.A. 18A:6-7.1c, pending a Criminal History Records Check and conditioned the appointment on execution of the district’s standard contract, which includes a 60-day termination clause.

Resolution No. 1941 approved four per-diem substitute employees—Dylan Dratch, Brian Greer, Dana Kukol and Nicole Linn—for the 2025–26 school year and authorized the superintendent to seek Commissioner approval on an emergent basis pending routine clearances under N.J.S.A. 18A:6-7.7.

The board approved a change in the High Mountain Road School lunch-duty stipend (Res. 1943), moving the previously authorized assignment from Lauren Calamita to Michelle Maloof at the FLEA contractual B-2 rate of $19.85 per event effective Sept. 12, 2025–June 30, 2026. The board also approved stipends for morning band support (Res. 1944) for paraeducators: Julie Durant will provide weekly morning band support for 18 instances at $40 per instance; Sue Kanning is listed as a substitute for the same coverage.

These personnel actions were adopted as part of the consent agenda and carry the standard contingencies noted in the minutes for emergent hires and background clearances. The board record does not show further discussion or individual roll-call debate of these personnel items.
