Students report competition wins, engineering club doubles membership and schedules STEAM night

Student representatives updated the Williams Bay School District board on recent extracurricular activity and upcoming events.
Student reporters (speaker 4) described December and January activities, including a Penny Wars fundraiser for Open Arms and Christmas-tree decorating. The board recorded the Penny Wars total as $600. The reporters also noted band and choir plans to attend solo and ensemble at Deerfield High School and hoped some students would advance to state.
Student Simon Pills (speaker 6) gave a short presentation about the district’s automation and robotics classes, saying he planned to study automation/mechatronics at Western Technical College in La Crosse and praising teacher Mr. White for hands-on instruction. Pills credited the class with helping him decide a career path and described success at SkillsUSA; he and a teammate took first place in a competition last year.
Members of the engineering club (Jose Pilo, speaker 1, and April Kimberley, speaker 7) described the club’s EMDC (engineering machine-design contest) focus on water and technical design, reporting that membership doubled to 24 students and that the club placed regionally and nationally last year. They invited the community to a STEAM night on Feb. 5 from 4–7 p.m. and noted the EMDC team will present at Discovery World in Milwaukee on March 14.
What’s next: Students said the STEAM night is intended to bring different clubs together, increase community interest and showcase projects; the PTO and district asked that a formal check presentation for the Penny Wars donation be scheduled during the school day for photos with participating students.
