Hunter Smiley presented the first request to rezone a 0.47‑acre parcel on Levy Road from residential to community commercial for relocation of administrative offices for MBC Pools. Staff and the planning commission recommended approval; council members asked whether the move would permit outdoor storage or operational activity and were told the change would only allow administrative office use, not outdoor equipment storage. Council discussed prior rezoning history in the area and potential concerns about incremental commercial creep; the motion for first reading carried with four ayes and one abstention.
Smiley also presented a separate request to rezone about 6.8 acres on Patriot Point from residential to rural preservation to allow micro‑farming (greenhouse and small‑scale commercial use). The planning commission recommended approval, and several council members expressed support for small‑scale farming and noted distinctions between 'general farming' and the proposed micro‑farming use. Council approved first reading by voice vote.
Both items will return for subsequent readings as required by the county's ordinance process.
