Ironwood contempt hearing continued after Montezuma County participant cites family emergency

The Montezuma County Board of County Commissioners convened a short special meeting to enter an executive session and later learned the Ironwood contempt hearing scheduled for Monday will be continued.

During the meeting the commissioners voted to go into an executive session “for the purpose of receiving legal advice pursuant to CRS 24-6-402(4)(b),” a motion moved by the Commissioner (Speaker 2) and seconded by the Chair (Speaker 1). The Chair listed those who would be included in the executive session as clerk and recorder Miss Purcell, commissioners Copenafer and Candelaria Lindsay, attorney Tarnowski, and administrator Anderson. The board voted in favor of entering the executive session.

After the board returned from executive session, Steven addressed the meeting and said the contempt hearing in the Ironwood litigation that “is currently set for Monday” will be continued. Steven said that Ironwood had requested a continuance and that the board was opposed to a continuance, but added, “I’ve got a personal family matter that’s come up, and so I will be unavailable,” and that because of his unavailability “that hearing is gonna be continued on that basis.” He said a new date would need to be obtained from the court and that a rescheduled date was not yet known.

No formal rescheduling date was announced during the meeting. The board then moved to adjourn; a motion to adjourn was made, seconded, and carried, and the special meeting ended.
