Public commenters urge focus on students and ask about curriculum review, bus tracking

Members of the public used the board’s comment period to congratulate newly reelected members and press the district on operational matters, including how often curriculum is reviewed and whether the district will implement bus tracking.

Michelle Grant, who spoke during the in-person public-comment period and provided an address for the record, congratulated board members and urged the board to make student and teacher priorities central in 2025. “...let’s make 2025 [a year] where we focus on the students and our teachers,” she said.

Keith Johnson told the board that next month’s public speaker will address Social Security and Medicaid for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and asked for an update on bus tracking. “The topic is about Social Security and Medicaid for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities,” Johnson said. A staff member said they would check in with the district’s new assistant business administrator to follow up on the bus-tracking request.

A district representative said the curriculum itself is typically reviewed on a five-year cycle aligned with standards, while selected instructional programs and resources may be purchased under multiyear licenses (commonly three to six years), which can affect how long the district uses a particular program.
