Whitnall superintendent previews summer construction at high school and Edgerton

Brady Reinke, superintendent of the Whitnall School District, posted a video tour describing a series of summer construction projects across district facilities and saying the work is intended to have key spaces ready when students return in the fall. "Some big things have been going on here," Reinke said at the start of the tour.

Reinke said crews have removed bleachers and begun significant HVAC work in the high school small gym, and that the boys' and girls' bathrooms across from the school store were gutted and will be remodeled. "They're gonna get replaced eventually here," he said of the gym bleachers.

At the high school kitchen, Reinke described floor excavation to install new piping and gas lines, new refrigeration equipment and freshly poured epoxy flooring in storage and office areas. "So this kitchen is scheduled to be ready for when kids get back," he said, noting the work is continuing and that the adjacent servery floor has been ripped up so it can be replaced over the summer.

Reinke also outlined changes to team spaces: the girls' team room is being demolished to allow underground plumbing for drains, while the former boys' team room will be converted into a "mud room" where teams can store equipment.

The district's pool project is already moving above ground, Reinke said, with foundations and walls going up and under-slab plumbing and a surge tank being built. He said the district will delay digging the actual pool basin until "there's a roof on the building and then they'll start digging out the pool." Reinke said he will provide updates as the schedule progresses.

Outside the district office connected to the high school, Reinke said roofing work across district buildings is slated to begin soon. At the Edgerton site he showed relocated playground equipment that will be reinstalled in a new spot and described a planned small retention pond; he emphasized that "there will be fencing around the retention pond at all times" to ensure safety.

Reinke added that the rented chiller previously used on site is gone and a new chiller will be installed, and pointed to the area where new classrooms and gym space are planned. He said crews will spend the summer moving electrical, plumbing and HVAC infrastructure located under the blacktop to support the new construction.

The superintendent closed by reiterating that much of the work will continue through the summer and expressing excitement about the improvements. He said the district will post further updates as key milestones—such as starting the pool excavation—approach.
