Board flags $1–1.5M sewer tie-in, roof change orders and wellness program updates

Board members said the district faces a major facilities decision after the county advised that the elementary wing’s septic system is too old to repair.
Chair explained the district has a ‘‘septic for a wing that is over 65 years old’’ and that a county letter indicated repairs are not feasible; the board estimated a sewer tie-in project at roughly $1 million to $1.5 million and said the building-and-grounds committee will pursue engineering consultations and explore state or federal funding.
In related facilities work, staff described recent roof project change orders: the contractor credited the district where lightweight concrete did not need removal but the district accepted an upcharge for matching metal fascia; staff proposed an additional change order to wrap the backside of a knee wall to stop persistent leaks, to be paid from contract allowances and grant funds.
Staff also said the district’s health insurance fund preliminarily approved a suite of wellness programs (self-defense fitness, yoga, walking club, partial gym-membership subsidies) that will not affect the tax base because funding comes from the insurance fund.
What’s next: the sewer tie-in will be on the October agenda with engineer consultations; the additional roof change order is expected to be brought formally at the next board meeting.
