Charlemont Board of Assessors approves tax warrants and enters executive session on abatements

The Charlemont Board of Assessors unanimously approved its May 12 minutes and signed a warrant to the collector and several tax-abatement and exemption lists at its June 9 meeting.

At the opening of the meeting, Anthony Ostroski called the session to order at 6:38 p.m. Members present were Karen Rau and Anthony Ostroski; the minutes state that Rau will rotate into the chair position at the board’s next meeting and that newly elected Assessor Andrea Santos will begin her term at that time.

Carlene Hayden, the assessor’s clerk, presented the board with quotes for property valuation services and said she was awaiting a quote from the current vendor. Hayden said she would email the detailed quotes to board members for review and would print a paper copy for Rau to pick up. Hayden also noted a flier for an Assessor’s roundtable in Erving and said she would attend if able.

By motion of Ostroski, seconded by Rau, the board voted unanimously to sign: the warrant to collector and notice of commitment for 2025 motor vehicle excise commitment #3; the monthly list of property and excise tax abatements for May 2025; the amended monthly list of excise tax abatements for March 2025; and the amended monthly list of statutory exemptions for June 2025.

At 6:55 p.m., on a motion by Ostroski and seconded by Rau, the board voted unanimously to adjourn and enter executive session under purpose #7 to deliberate on pending abatement and exemption applications that, pursuant to G.L. Chapter 59, Section 60, are not open to public inspection. The board also voted to sign minutes from the last executive session and not to reconvene in open session afterward; roll-call votes were recorded as Ostroski–Yes and Rau–Yes.
