At its Aug. 4 session the Charlemont Board of Assessors approved routine administrative items, reviewed a combined valuation-services proposal, and scheduled follow-up property inspections.
The board, on a motion by Chair Karen Rau seconded by Andrea Santos, approved the minutes of the July 7, 2025 meeting. On a subsequent motion by Rau, seconded by Anthony Ostroski, the board voted unanimously to approve and sign the Warrant to Collector and Notice of Commitment for 2025 motor vehicle excise commitment #4 and the monthly list of property and excise tax abatements for July 2025.
Assessor’s Clerk Carlene Hayden reported that two vendors, Cidare and MAK Valuation, offered to combine their valuation services under a single point of contact and a combined quote estimated around $16,000. Board members expressed a preference for an initial one‑year contract to evaluate the arrangement, with the option to consider a three‑year contract later. The minutes note the board’s current contract with Catalis is $16,650 per year and record a proposed new contract amount of $11,250 per year for Fiscal Years 2027–2029 as entered in the minutes; no final vendor award or contract was approved at the meeting.
On data-quality inspections, the board reviewed properties flagged by their BLA advisor. Members divided inspection responsibilities, agreed to conduct a joint interior inspection of the Johnson property at 26 Riddell Rd., and set a site-inspection date for Friday, Aug. 8 at 4:30 p.m.; Carlene Hayden will contact the owner and Chair Rau will visit the Sanderson property to verify an accessory apartment. The meeting adjourned at 8:16 p.m.; the board then voted to enter executive session to deliberate pending abatement and exemption applications under G.L. Chapter 59, Section 60. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 8, 2025.
