Resident urges Sumner to consider ordinance restricting drag performances at family events

Land said she attended Plateau Pride at Donald Iseman Elementary School last year and described witnessing performers she considered inappropriate for children. She asked the council to consider rules such as allowing adult entertainment only after 8 p.m., restricting performances to 18+ establishments, or using physical screening for outdoor venues to block views from children. "Creating protections for children against exposure to adult entertainment is not banning that adult entertainment. It's prioritizing the safety of all children," she told the council and provided a handout to the clerk.
The mayor thanked her and accepted the handout; the council did not take action on the request at this meeting. Another resident, who identified himself only as Brian, used public comment time to press the council about constituent services and said he had difficulty obtaining assistance from various government offices.
The remarks were recorded during the public comment portion of the meeting; no ordinance or referral was introduced on the floor in response to Land’s request.
