The clerk read Communication 7 51 and the committee voted to close the file and send a favorable recommendation by voice vote; the clerk recorded nine ayes.
Alexander described roughly 26 years of Navy service and about 10 years working in Hilo with the Veterans Administration and Benefits Administration, saying he has helped veterans access education, rehabilitation, compensation and pension benefits. He told the committee that agencies at federal, state and local levels are not always coordinated and that he can help “string all that information together” so veterans receive benefits more quickly.
Council members thanked Alexander for his service and for his knowledge of benefits administration. The committee’s favorable recommendation will be transmitted to the full Hawaii County Council for final confirmation.
